I am a practicing jazz educator, composer, performer and author of jazz educational packages. I have twenty five years experience as a music educator and my teaching practice was set up parallel with my performing career - a musically enriching experience and I feel priveliged to have performed with such great contemporary improvisors as Randy Brecker, Orphy Robinson, Mamadi Kamara, Dave Adams, Ernst Reisjeger, Han Bennink, Gary Valente, Chris Biscoe, Claude Deppa, Mano Ventura and Andy Sheppard, with whom I performed at major European and Scandinavian jazz and world music festivals.
My musical encounters and experiences as a performer nourish my teaching by providing a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience - this provides my students with a platform from which to step into the language and performance of jazz.
I am totally committed to the development of improvised music, both as a language (the ultimate universal language) and an art form (the expression of the language - painting with sound).
I offer high quality one-to-one piano tuition at all levels, and for all ages in the following styles:
[] jazz - blues - gospel - funk - country - rock
I offer high quality one-to-one tuition at all levels, and for all ages in the following:
[] composition - songwriting - modern theory
I also offer the same quality tuition to all ages in:
[] Classical piano and theory to Grade 8 - Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music standard.
I teach from home in a suitably equipped music studio - enabling me to produce backing tracks on CD or minidisc for my students to practice with at home - much more enjoyable way to practice.
It also enables my students that are studying composition and songwriting to record their songs and compositions on to minidisc or CD, or both.
